Kaplan Centre Bursaries South Africa 2017 – 2018

 

ABOUT THE BURSAR

Kaplan Centre Bursaries - The Isaac and Jessie Kaplan Centre for Jewish Studies and Research was a gift to the University of Cape Town (UCT), named in the honour of Robert and Mendel Kaplan’s parents. The Kaplan Centre was founded in 1980 and is currently situated in the Rachel Bloch House.

ABOUT THE BURSARY

The Kaplan Centre Bursaries are intended for undergraduate and postgraduate students, to take up studies and research.

Undergraduate studies: Bursaries will be awarded to students whose studies focus on Jewish, Hebrew Language and Literature. Bursary grants must be used to cover the cost of tuition fees at UCT.

Postgraduate studies: Bursaries will also be awarded to postgraduate/ research students focused on Jewish studies. Bursary grants must be used to cover the cost of tuition fees at UCT OR travel costs OR running costs OR other research related expenses at UCT.

ELIGIBILITY - Kaplan Centre Bursaries

Applicants must satisfy the following minimum entry criteria before applying:

  • South African citizen
  • Undergraduate students:
    • studying towards a Jewish focused qualification/ Hebrew Language/ Literature
    • studying or intend on studying at UCT
  • Postgraduate students:
    • studying towards a Jewish focused qualification
    • studying or intend on studying at UCT

Postgraduate students: Kaplan Centre Bursary Application Form (postgraduate) (word doc) version OR Kaplan Centre Bursary Application Form (postgraduate) (pdf) version.
Please include the following items in your application pack:

  • ID document (certified copy)
  • Tertiary academic transcript
  • Proof of acceptance at UCT into a relevant research/ study programme
  • 2 testimonials from someone who knows the students work (school principal/ teacher/ lecturer etc) (to be sent to the Kaplan Centre directly by the reference, under confidential cover)
  • Full CV
  • Itemised budget (postgraduate students only)
  • Motivational letter (new applicants only)
  • 2 page research proposal and a timeline of the proposed research (postgraduate research grant applicants only)
